Steven Dean Ozment, age 63, passed away on December 9, 2025, at Hospice House in Birmingham, Alabama.

Born on September 9, 1962, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Steven was the son of Phyllis Ozment and the late David Ozment.

Steven is survived by his wife, Deanna Ozment, his partner in life for many memorable years. He is also survived by his mother, Phyllis Ozment; sisters Karen (Fred) Preiss and Sandra Ozment Hofmann; sisters-in-law Debbie Gudenkauf and Donna Powers; and brother-in-law Greg (Kristi) Powers. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Known to friends simply as Ozzo, Steven lived life on his own terms. He spent many years in Cullman, Alabama, before moving to Pennsylvania in the 1980s. After experiencing a record snow winter, he realized the Northeast wasn’t for him and headed west to Lawrence, Kansas. In the lively university town, he found lasting friendships and met the love of his life, Deanna.

After a classic Las Vegas wedding, Steven and Deanna made their home in Lawrence until the pull of warmer weather led them south. In 2004, they moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, where Steven embraced everything the coastal life had to offer. He especially loved boating and fishing, spending countless hours on the water—his favorite place to unwind, explore, and simply be himself.

In recent years, Steven and Deanna returned to Birmingham, Alabama, to be closer to family and longtime friends, reconnecting with the roots and relationships that had shaped so much of his life.

Steven will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor, his independent spirit, and his readiness to chase the next adventure. His stories and the imprint he left on those who knew him will endure.
