CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Police Department will host its 12th annual Shop with a Cop event on Saturday, Dec. 13.

CPD Community Relations Officer Adam Clark said the group will meet at Chick-fil-A that morning before heading over to Walmart to shop.

“We spend approximately $500-$700 (per child) based on how much money we raise and the amount of children we have,” Clark said. “After we’re done shopping, we take them back to Chick-fil-A and have lunch with the kids.”

Clark shared that Brooks’ Place selects the majority of the kids in the program, and others come from  officers’ recommendations.

“We are full already this year, which is exciting,” he said. “Right now I have about 12 children on the list, and if I raise additional funds, we will sponsor more. Parents are not allowed to attend, except for special circumstances.”

The Cullman Police Department raises anywhere from $9,000-$12,000 for each Shop with a Cop event.

“This year, so far, I’ve raised about $8,500, with hopefully more coming in,” Clark said. “We are so grateful to do this event in the community each year. We think we are pouring into these kids — but their excitement pours into us as law enforcement officers that much more. Shop with a Cop is one of our favorite traditions, and allows us to have a positive experience with these children.”
