GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council at its Nov. 13 meeting heard updates on several ongoing projects, including the construction of the new community center and storm shelter. Officials said concrete work is progressing in stages, with roofing sections being poured, tested and moved systematically along the structure. Brick selection has been finalized and the building is expected to be completed by early spring. Once finished, the facility will serve as a storm shelter for up to 300 people and will include a kitchenette for senior programs.

Other discussions focused on maintenance and recreation updates, including improvements at the city park and preparations for the upcoming ball seasons. A question was raised about future walking trails in the hill area near the interstate. Officials said the space is being cleared for improved public use and safety, with plans to add trails around the park once the grading work is complete.

The council received an update on the ongoing renovation of the former Jack’s restaurant, which is being converted into a new local establishment. The owner expects progress to pick up after recent delays, with hopes to open in early 2026.

Discussion also centered on signage at city hall and the municipal park. Officials agreed that the older Pepsi sign near the entrance has outlived its purpose, and the City plans to replace it with a new digital sign at the park instead. Kubota representatives intend to add a separate sign near their property, which the City had no objections to.

Later in the meeting, members reviewed portions of a development agreement with David Hooper (Hoop D Digital, LLC.) connected to a proposed entertainment venue. Several adjustments were discussed, like clarifying job estimates, specifying that the agreement applies only to hard-liquor tax revenue and eliminating sections that would allow contract benefits to transfer automatically to a future owner or tenant.

Additional revisions will be made to ensure the agreement’s terms reflect the City’s intent.

The council adjourned after reviewing remaining concerns submitted by absent members and agreeing to continue refining the document.
