CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Elks Lodge recently announced the launch of its Toys of Joy program, in partnership with the Cullman VFW.
Project Chair Jessica Atchley said for decades, the Elks have been known for their service to veterans, families and the community.
“In recent years, Cullman Elks Lodge has dedicated itself to sponsoring veterans during the holidays — providing gifts and support to every veteran living in local nursing homes, as well as assisting veteran families in need,” Atchley said. “Last year alone, the Elks served over 150 veterans and their families, making sure they were honored and remembered during the holiday season.”
This year, with the news that Toys for Tots will not be operating in Cullman County, the Elks voted to expand their mission, Atchley said.
“They are stepping in to fill this gap by establishing the Toys of Joy program, designed to serve local children who might otherwise go without,” Atchley said. “Our members felt we could not let children in our community face Christmas morning without joy. Toys of Joy is a natural extension of what we’ve already been doing for veterans and their families. By broadening our reach, we can honor our commitment to service and ensure no child is left out this holiday season.”
The Cullman Elks are calling on local businesses, civic groups, schools and individuals to help make Toys of Joy a success. Financial contributions, toy donations and volunteer time are all needed to meet the expected demand.
“Cullman has always been a community that pulls together,” Atchley said. “We invite everyone to be part of this effort. Whether it’s dropping a toy in a donation box, sponsoring a family or helping us pack and deliver gifts, every act of generosity makes a difference.”
