Samuel Rickie Jones, age 75, of Hanceville, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2025. He was born on March 15, 1950, to L.B. Jones and Evie Hall Jones.
A man of deep faith and an ever-present smile, Sam loved the Lord, his family, and the outdoors. To him, fishing wasn’t just about catching fish — it was about the quiet mornings when mist curled over the water, the sounds of the water, and the laughter shared with whoever was lucky enough to be with him. Whether casting a line on the water or hunting on a fall day, he found peace and joy in God’s creation. He was known for his quick wit, contagious laughter, and knack for making everyone around him feel like family. Truly, he never met a stranger.
Sam was a proud and dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge for his entire adult life, serving his community and living out the values of brotherhood, charity, and truth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.B. Jones and Evie Hall Jones; his brother, Pete Jones; and his wife, Cathy Jones.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Jones Rice (David) and Sara Jones Doty (Ash Benjamin); his nephew, Brian Keith Jones, with whom he shared an especially close bond; three grandchildren, Ashley Rice Swindle, D.J. Rice, and Carter Doty; and five great-grandchildren, Annabelle Swindle, Elijah Swindle, Amelia Swindle, Jonah Swindle, and Isaac Swindle; great niece, Amy Jones Kanaday, Lance Jones and Alex Jones. His family will forever cherish the countless memories of his laughter, generosity, and endless love.
The funeral will be held at New Prospect Baptist Church in Hanceville, Alabama, on August 13, 2025, at noon, with burial to follow immediately at the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will also take place on August 13, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church. Friends and family are invited to gather and share stories of a man whose laughter and joy will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
