HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Minecraft Nerds Unite! club had its open house meeting at the Shirley Burden Public Library in Hanceville Aug. 6.

The private club offers technology-free, hands-on, educational fun for homeschool students (ages 6-12) who love Minecraft, with a theme from the game at each monthly meeting. Meetings start with show-and-tell and snacks. Members participate in individual and group activities and leave with a Minecraft take-home challenge. The club throws parties for Halloween, the end of the club year and Valentine’s Day.

Amber Dover founded the club after playing Minecraft with her children. Minimal volunteering from guardians, contributing to holiday parties and joining the Facebook group for event planning is required to be in the group. Children can share their Minecraft builds on the club’s page.

Find the group on Facebook at www.facebook.com/groups/minecraftnerdsunitehomeschoolclub.
