Obituary: Edward Dudley Boike

Edward Dudley Boike, 84, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, with his devoted and loving wife, Evelyn, by his side. 

Born on April 24, 1941, in Cullman, Alabama, Ed graduated from St. Bernard High School. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Known for his sense of humor, hardworking “can-do” spirit, and generosity, Ed never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand. 

Ed enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, and working around their home. One of his favorite adventures was driving their camper to the Grand Canyon together. 

For over 45 years, Ed served as a dedicated sponsor in the local Alcoholics Anonymous community, offering guidance, compassion, and hope to countless individuals on their path to recovery. His quiet strength and unwavering support left a lasting impact on many lives. 

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Charles I. Boike; mother, Norma Smith Boike; brother, Charles Joseph Boike; sister, Mary Jane (Boike) Weissend; and eldest daughter, Kim Annette (Boike) Nuss. 

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Christine (McDonald) Boike; daughter, Tenina Marie (Boike) Freeman (husband Bobby); sons, Steven McDonald (wife Christy) and Scott McDonald (wife Kallen); and six grandchildren: Patrick Aaron Nuss (wife Sara), Kristin Marie Bridewell (husband Marc), Amber Alayne Hetzler (husband Jeremy), Caitlin McDonald, Lucas McDonald, and Jude McDonald. 

He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Troy Aaron Nuss, lan Alexander Nuss, Roman Axl Nuss, Elizabeth Danielle Bridewell, and Charles Aaron Bridewell. 

Ed’s legacy of love, laughter, service, and strength will live on in all who knew him. 

Edward Dudley Boike will be laid to rest on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 1 p.m. at Cullman City Cemetery, 812 9th Ave SW, Cullman, Alabama 35055.
