DODGE CITY, Ala. – The Cold Springs High School Royal Blue Band held a shrimp and crawfish boil to raise funds at Johnny’s Barbershop in Dodge City on a hot July 4.

Tickets were good for 2 pounds of either fresh shrimp or crawfish, along with sausage, potatoes and corn. After pre-sold ticket orders were fulfilled, the band sold meals to the public. All proceeds will support the band.

Members of the band created and held signs to advertise and direct people.

“This is our first time ever doing this. We’re learning, but we’re having fun in the sun. It’s a good hot day; it’s the 4th of July and we’re trying to save some people from having to cook,” said Jon Kilgore, president of the CSHS Band Boosters.

The Royal Blue Band has a second fundraiser happening. It is selling giant head cutouts on sticks, which are held high at games, competitions and other school events. The cutouts can be ordered for $25 from a band member or booster or at bighead.rbb@gmail.com with the subject line “Big Head.” The deadline to order for the first delivery is July 21.
