Opal R. (Parker) Herndon, of Hanceville, Ala., 100, received her Heavenly reward on Monday, June 9th,2026. Opal was born July 28th,1925 to George Washington Parker and Mettie (Chandler Parker) In Parma, Missouri.
She married the love of her life, Paul J. Herndon, on July 19th, 1946. They spent 61 1/2 happy years together before he passed in 2007. They raised 3 children, Sharee, Jeff and Tom. They also gave a home to many family members in their times of need.
Opal retired from AC Spark Plug in 1982 after 27 1/2 years. She loved her savior and served Him from the age of 9 years. She loved baking, candy making, crafting, fishing, and feeding “everyone” who would eat.
She was a member of Hopewell Rd. Church of God in Hanceville, Ala. Preceding her in death are her husband, parents and several brothers and sisters. She was the last of her siblings.
Surviving are her children, Sharee (Gary) Smith of Davison, Mi, Jeff Herndon of Hanceville, Ala., Tom Parker of Bancroft Mi., and special “daughter” Diane Herndon, five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, Many nieces and nephews.
Service for Opal will be Monday June 15th at Cullman Funeral Home at 2p.m. (Visitation at 12 p.m.) till time of service. Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Hanceville along side of her beloved Paul.
