CULLMAN, Ala. – Located at 1714 Tally Ho St. SW in Cullman is the North Alabama Agriplex,

home to many who are passionate about educating the community on sustainability, agricultural heritage and more.

In May, the Agriplex held its Mother’s Day Tea. Mothers and their children enjoyed tea in “real China,” Samantha Catland, manager of the Agriplex Youth and Kitchen Programs, noted.

They were served frittata bites, bok choy pinwheels, lemon cake bites and cinnamon rolls.

“We used bok choy from the grow tower inside the building,” Catland stated.

These sweet and savory treats were shared on a table filled with locally grown flower bouquets.

Children also wrote handwritten poems for their mothers and read them aloud during the event.

“This was a part of the Farm Kids Club,” Catland explained.

The Farm Kids Club meets on Saturdays once a month (except June and July), with programs of all kinds for children ages 5 and up, accompanied by an adult.

This program will include a reading of the book “Worm Makes a Sandwich” by Brianne Farley.

Says the Agriplex website: “Dig into the world of composting as we hear this story and discover how worms turn scraps into soil magic.”
