CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman City Primary School celebrated America’s upcoming 250th birthday during the school’s Semiquincentennial celebration on Monday, May 11.
Police Chief Joey Duncan said the event gave students a fun and educational opportunity to learn about the nation’s history.
“Students and faculty enjoyed patriotic activities and historical presentations throughout the day,” Duncan said. “One of the highlights was School Resource Officer Bill Fisher, who dressed as Benjamin Franklin and entertained students while teaching them about American history.”
Duncan said the Cullman Police Department was honored to participate in the event alongside the students and staff of Cullman Primary School.
“It is always an honor for the Cullman Police Department to be involved in events that educate and inspire our young people,” Duncan said. “Seeing students excited about learning our nation’s history while building positive relationships with officers in the community makes this event especially meaningful as we approach America’s 250th anniversary.”
Fisher was asked by Principal Dr. Elizabeth Shaddix to play the role of Ben Franklin.
“This was for our Semiquincentennial celebration of America – 250 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence,” Fisher said. “It was a fun role in signing the Declaration of Independence. The CCPS students are our future, and the Declaration of Independence applies to them.”
