BERLIN, Ala. – The Berlin Town Council at its meeting Monday, April 20, announced a ribbon cutting for the Berlin Farmers Market will take place Friday, May 8, at 4 p.m. Lemonade and cookies will be provided by the council. The market is located at 50 Mt. Carmel Dr.
Mayor Patrick Bates introduced Ordinance No. 2026-001, which establishes rules and regulations for the Berlin Community Park and Farmers Market site.
Rules and regulations address littering, pets/animals, alcohol and drugs, smoking and vaping, motorized vehicles and bicycles, wildlife and vegetation and noise restrictions.
Town Clerk Keirstyn Montgomery advised there needs to be an update to enforce tobacco regulations.
Councilman Keith Hardman motioned to suspend the rules, which was seconded by Councilman Donald Gunter.
Hardman motioned to adopt the ordinance, which Gunter also seconded.
The ordinance was adopted unanimously.
Ordinance No. 2026-003 was adopted, with the council beginning the process of selecting a new town attorney. Previous Town Attorney Heath Meherg was appointed by Gov. Kay Ivey back in March to serve as a Cullman County district judge.
Discussing County Roads 1612, 1614 and 1616, Bates told the council that Rogers Group had decided on a quote of $59,020. As this was discussed, members asked if an additional lane could be considered into the price.
“Can we agree to pass it as long as we don’t exceed $65,000?” Bates asked of the council. The motion was passed unanimously.
The Berlin Town Council will meet next on Monday, May 18, at 7 p.m. at Berlin Town Hall.
