MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman, on Tuesday announced his staff is continuing to monitor progress on several community projects across his legislative district that have received State funding.
“Serving as senate president pro tem puts me in an even better position to help my legislative district by obtaining funding for essential projects or simply providing assistance when individuals run into problems and have to navigate state bureaucracy,” Gudger said. “Making sure our area gets its fair share of dollars from Montgomery will always remain among my top missions as a state senator.”
In recent years, his office said, Gudger has successfully secured millions of dollars for towns, cities, counties and schools to improve the quality of life for individuals and families in his senate district, which covers portions of Cullman, Marion and Winston counties.
Gudger said many of the local governments he represents could not afford these improvements without outside funding and assistance from the State.
As just one example, he pointed to the Town of Garden City, which has received almost $2 million in State grants that he has obtained in recent years. Among the projects made possible with the funding are:
- $250,000 for resurfacing of the Roland “Racehorse” Johnson Parkway
- $241,000 to provide a new fire station
- $657,860 to fund water system improvements
- $430,462 for the Garden City Park
- $389,800 for sewer system improvements
