CULLMAN, Ala. – Rock the South will take place next week in Cullman County, and local officials held a press conference at the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, June 13, to discuss safety.

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry, Cullman Police Chief Joey Duncan and District Attorney Champ Crocker were present.

“We’re here to discuss Rock the South and safety,” Crocker said. “We want everyone to have a good time and stay out of trouble. Rock the South is a big event in Cullman County and unfortunately sometimes people break the law. We are here to stress that you obey the law.”

Gentry said the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office will manage the area outside the venue and the Cullman Police Department will be over the inside of the venue.

“We will not put up with nonsense. If you are outside the venue and you are being a knucklehead, we will deal with you,” Gentry said. “We will have our mobile jail inside the Rock the South venue, so if you make knucklehead choices, you will not be attending the concert. We want you to come and have a good time, but we also want you to be safe.”

Duncan said the major calls they usually get at the festival are medical calls — and they will have EMS on-site to help with any incidents.

“Dehydration medical calls are what we have the most of so we ask all attendees to make sure prior to the event and at the event that you’re drinking plenty of water,” Duncan said. “There will be plenty of water stations inside the event to take advantage of. Also, if any attendees begin showing disruptive behavior or are highly intoxicated — they will be escorted out of the venue. There will be no refunds and there could be criminal charges.”

Duncan and Gentry reminded all Rock and South attendees that although there are alcohol sales inside the venue, outside the venue is considered the county, which is dry.
