MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Just three weeks after presenting a grant check for upgrades and cosmetic renovations to the Kelley Community Center, Senate President Pro Tempore Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman, pledged this week to help secure additional funding to repair extensive damage to the building that resulted from recent storms.

A line of severe storms with high winds and lightning that felled trees and downed power lines across Gudger’s Senate District 4 on Saturday, June 7, also tore the roof off of the Kelley Community Center.

“We will stand with the people of the Kelley community and work with our state and local partners to restore their community center even better than it was,” Gudger vowed. “It is fortunate that this damage occurred before the planned upgrades and renovations had begun, not after, and I am committed to reopening this important community landmark as soon as possible.”

In addition to providing a venue for community and family events, the building serves as the local polling place for elections.

The Kelley Community Center is located at 1270 County Road 1435.
