CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and Retired U.S. Army Major Patrick Bishop on Memorial Day announced he is running for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.

“I am running for lieutenant governor because Alabama deserves to be represented by a proven person who is not afraid to fight for what’s right. Someone who will not bend his soul for votes. I am not a politician; I just know how to get things done! I have all of the strengths of politicians, but none of their weaknesses! Alabama residents know what they’ll get with me. As lieutenant governor, I will be a champion for limited government, a fighter for our constitutional rights, a tireless advocate for the veterans and honorable law enforcement officers.”

Bishop served 26 years in the United States Army after enlisting in 1990 as a Ramsay High School graduate, and several years in law enforcement.

Bishop and his wife Angela live in Trussville. He is a lifetime member of the VFW, immediate past director of military affairs for Alabama for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Cullman County Fraternal Order of Police, Military Officers of America Association, associate minister of Trinity Baptist Church, Southern States PBS and member of Tau Sigma Chapter (Birmingham Sigmas) of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.  He was recently recognized with Cullman County’s Outstanding Citizen Award by children of Cullman County Schools, and is active with many other community organizations.

The Alabama Statewide Primary Election will be May 19, 2026. The Primary Runoff Election will be June 16, 2026, and the General Election will be Nov. 3, 2026.
