CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City School Board at its April meeting named Employees of the Month.  Support Services Coordinator Hayden Faulk and Technology Technician Chris Kennedy.

Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff honored Faulk’s work ethic, acknowledging his role in maintaining current facilities and guiding ongoing construction projects. Kennedy was honored for his outstanding work and dedication to the district’s digital security, including the maintenance of over $700,000 in video surveillance and door access systems.

“Both employees play important roles in keeping school system facilities and technology up to date, safe and functional for the 3,000 plus students and 400 plus employees. Thank you guys for making student success a priority,” said a post to the district’s Facebook page.

The board approved the February 2025 financials and a variety of action items, including the adoption of new AP Science textbooks, the creation of a job description for a gifted teacher and the approval of multiple Head Start items, such as a contract with Stephanie Palisay for early childhood education consultation services and partnerships with Wallace State Community College Adult Education Services through July 31, 2025 and Dr. Emily Che Wilson for vision screenings for the 2025-2026 school year.

The Cullman High School Marching Band will travel to Washington, D.C., Nov. 8-12, to participate in the National Veterans Parade. Meanwhile, the archery teams from Cullman Middle, East and West Elementary Schools will travel to Louisville, Kentucky, May 7-10, for a tournament.

Kallhoff provided an extensive update on district construction and program progress. Cullman Middle School is progressing through phase two, with the third-level course lab recently poured, and trusses are expected to be installed in mid-May. The high school STEM/CTE wing is under foundational development. Part of the new facility will include a storm shelter built to withstand winds up to 250 mph.

Renovations continue at the West Elementary campus, which will soon become the Intermediate School. The project includes the Smith Center, which will be transformed into a facility for students with disabilities, featuring sensory and calming rooms, accessible restrooms and functional classrooms. Work is also planned for the agriculture building, including HVAC, electrical and technology improvements. The district will begin track resurfacing at the high school on May 5, closing the field and track for approximately six weeks. Finally, three new school buses were delivered, including one specifically equipped for students with special needs.

The next Cullman City School Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, at 5 p.m. at the central office.
