CULLMAN, Ala. – A Cullman County man has been convicted of felony attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, according to a post on the Facebook page of Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker and confirmed through court records.
The post said Austin Wade Eipp, 30, was convicted after a two-day trial.
“This case was based on Eipp fleeing police to avoid felony warrants and causing a high-speed chase that covered 21 miles throughout the City of Cullman and Cullman County,” it said.
“First, I want to thank the legislature and Governor Ivey for implementing this law in 2023. It was much needed to give law enforcement officers and prosecutors an effective tool to deter running from the police. Austin Eipp was a one man crime wave who deserved to be held accountable. Second, the officers of the Cullman Police Department did an exemplary job pursuing Mr. Eipp and bringing this chase to a safe end. They made a solid case for us to take to trial, where the officers’ professionalism made a strong impression. Finally, I want to thank our jury for their attentiveness and their willingness to serve,” said Crocker.
The trial stemmed from a chase that happened in November 2023. Eipp was also involved in another pursuit in 2019.
Cullman County Circuit Judge Emily Niezer Johnston presided over the trial. Eipp will remain in custody until he is sentenced, which is scheduled for April 8, at 10 a.m.
