ROGERSVILLE, Ala. – Vinemont traveled to face the Lauderdale County Tigers in the first round of the 3A state playoffs Friday night and unfortunately for Eagles fans, the season came to an end with a 24-0 loss.

Lauderdale County drove down the field on their second possession of the game, but the Vinemont defense stepped up to stop the Tigers on fourth and goal from the 1-yard line to keep the game scoreless. Lauderdale County got on the board with 30 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 7-0 lead headed into the locker room.

Coming out of halftime, Vinemont’s Brandon Johnson recovered an onside kick, but the drive stalled when the Eagles came up short on fourth down.

Early in the fourth quarter the Tigers forced a safety to make the score 9-0. After forcing a punt with about four minutes remaining in the game, disaster struck the Eagles as they threw a pick-six on the first play of the ensuing drive and then fumbled the following kickoff which was returned for a touchdown.

All of a sudden, the Tigers’ lead ballooned to 24-0 in just 20 seconds. Vinemont held onto the ball on its next possession but didn’t have time to chip away at the lead and the Eagles’ season came to an end with a 24-0 loss at Lauderdale County.
