CULLMAN, Ala. – Each year when Oktoberfest rolls around, area seniors are treated to a day all their own. Oktoberfest Senior Day is a day designed for Cullman-area residents 50 and older and allows them a leisurely day of games, music and food.

Cullman County Commission Chairman Jeff Clemons was at Senior Day on Friday, Oct. 4, and on behalf of the commission, shared, “It was an honor to be at Senior Day at Oktoberfest. We want to thank the City of Cullman for working with us on this great event, and we want to thank all of the sponsors and volunteers for their hard work. We had over 388 seniors in attendance.”

Stephanie Neal, senior coordinator at the Donald E. Green Active Adult Center, shared her enthusiasm for the event, saying, “We look forward to this event every year!”

Put on by the Cullman Commission on Aging and the Active Adult Center, Senior Day saw seniors from across the county piled into the Festhalle and treated to a grilled lunch provided and prepared by Walmart and lively polka tunes played by The Good Bellows, an eclectic grouping of musicians who play an equally eclectic grouping of instruments including cowbell, banjo, accordion and sousaphone.

“(Senior Day) gives our seniors a special day to enjoy the festivities of Oktoberfest. It’s always a fun day for our seniors,” said Neal.

Sponsored by Premier Bank of the South, bingo was a fun addition to this year’s Senior Day. The game’s many prizes like gift cards, merchandise and cash left the seniors hopping with excitement when a bingo was made.

Seniors and individuals of all ages can enjoy Oktoberfest through Sat. Oct. 5.
