CULLMAN, Ala. – On Tuesday, Sept. 10, volunteers from all walks of life participated in the United Way of Cullman County’s Day of Caring. The groups of givers gathered at UWCC’s partner agencies across the county to lend a hand in completing various tasks, including painting interior rooms at the Cullman County Center for the Developmentally Disabled (CCDDD) Group Home, organization and planning at the North Alabama Agriplex and filling treat bags at UWCC headquarters.

Morgan Dingler, UWCC Day of Caring organizer, shared, “Day of Caring was a great success, highlighting the difference we can achieve when our community comes together for a shared purpose. Our volunteers went the extra mile, offering support to our local nonprofits. From painting walls to cleaning trails, each effort reflected the heart of our community.”

Many local organizations and businesses took the Day of Caring as an opportunity to give back to the community that allows their businesses and operations to thrive. Volunteer groups from the Cullman City Schools Foundation, EvaBank, Merchants Bank, Payroll Services, Peoples Bank, REHAU and The Cullman County Extension Office all joined in.

Multiple projects were completed on Tuesday, thanks to the help of volunteers. In addition to painting rooms at the CCCDD Group Home, organization at the North Alabama Agriplex, sorting for Victim Services of Cullman and filling treat bags for UWCC, the Good Samaritan Health Clinic received donations of needed medical supplies to assist in serving Cullman’s uninsured population.

“This day serves as a reminder that by working together, even the smallest acts of kindness can ignite meaningful and lasting change,” smiled Dingler.

Other organizations have committed to completing projects at a later date, like the team from Cullman’s Walmart Distribution Center, who will be giving the Pilot Light Home a nice shining. The group is set to conquer problem areas at the home like repairing the playground and swing set, washing windows and giving each room and fresh coat of paint.

Wallace State Community College, Under Pressure Pressure Washing and the Cullman Electric Cooperative have also committed to donating time and man-power in the near future to alleviate stress and burden from the UWCC’s partners in need.

Individual volunteers included Susan Crane, Lemont Dupree, Arden Crane and Alexis Speakman.

UWCC Executive Director Stephanie Childers said, “This year’s Day of Caring was a tremendous success. We are immensely grateful for the 90-plus volunteers who selflessly dedicated their time to support our nonprofits. If we were to put a monetary value on their efforts, it would be worth over $20,000! Their contribution has had a lasting impact on our community!”

UWCC and its partner agencies are still searching for volunteers to help in the completion of various tasks. For more information volunteer opportunities, contact mdingler@uwaycc.org.
