CULLMAN, Ala. – In April, the Good Samaritan Health Clinic announced plans to build a new location along Veterans Drive Southwest to better serve the residents of Cullman County. On Friday, Aug. 16, the Cullman Lions Club helped the clinic step closer to breaking ground with a $50,000 donation to Good Samaritan’s capital campaign.

The area clinic was started to assist low-income and uninsured individuals with rising health care costs. Since opening, Good Samaritan has grown with the needs of its community members and acts as a primary care office, treating patients with chronic and long-term illnesses and disabilities. Acute and urgent care, dental screenings, mental health services, hearing evaluations and other services are also available through the clinic.

During the April announcement, Board Chair Zach Lee shared the goals of the clinic in its new endeavor: long-term mission fulfillment, prevention and wellness and exceptional care to all uninsured residents. The new clinic is estimated to cost the nonprofit $2.8 million and is set to break ground in 2025. In April, Good Samaritan announced that nearly two-thirds of the funding was secured.

The donation from the Cullman Lions Club puts the clinic even closer to meeting its goal.

“We are so incredibly grateful to every Lions Club member for all you do for our community. This is the perfect example of how you serve us; I know your club is about service,” said Good Samaritan Capital Campaign Chairman Susan Copeland. “The Good Samaritan Clinic is also about service, and this is a win-win for our community.”

Copeland said the clinic’s campaign is about $1 million away from the project’s completion, noting that the donation from the local group is a significant contribution to the clinic’s cause.

“Your gift of $50,000 is a great start and jump to what is a daunting goal of raising a million dollars in our capital campaign,” she said.

The new building is set to be a 5,050-square-foot clinic with four exam rooms, a cardio room, a medication dispensary with a drive-through and a larger waiting space, which will also be used for after-hours patient education programs.
