PREP SOFTBALL: Fairview falls to Springville 14-1, Tuesday scoring recap

FAIRVIEW, Ala. — The Fairview Lady Aggies rode a four-game winning streak into their matchup against Springville Tuesday afternoon, but it was all Lady Tigers in this one. Springville took an early lead and ended up rolling past Fairview 14-1 in five innings.

Springville collected a two-run single and an RBI single in their opening at-bats to take a 3-0 lead. They added one more in the top of the second to make it 4-0, then exploded for eight runs in the third to take a commanding 12-0 lead. Fairview got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third. Emily Benson hit a two-out double, and Kylie Kovar followed that up with one of his own to drive in Benson to make it 12-1. The Lady Tigers put up two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to put the final score at 14-1.

Kovar finished with a hit and an RBI for Fairview (7-3), while Benson, Addison Phillips and Allison Davis each collected a hit in the loss.

Locust Fork 4 – Cold Springs 2 (Softball)

An error and an RBI single gave Locust Fork a 2-0 lead in the home half of the first inning. The score would remain the same until the bottom of the sixth, as a two-run home run gave the Lady Hornets a 4-0 lead. Cold Springs looked to keep their chances of winning alive in the top of the seventh. Sadie Smith hit a leadoff double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Peyton Kennedy to cut it to 4-1. Three straight singles loaded the bases with two outs, then Adriana Young drew a walk to bring home a run to make it 4-2. A strikeout, though, ended the game, and the Lady Eagles fell just short in the end to Locust Fork 4-2.

Young finished with a hit and an RBI for Cold Springs (2-3). Kennedy added an RBI of her own. Brooklyn Ingram and Ciara Calvert each ended up with a pair of hits, while Kortnie Williams, Kaydance Williams, Brooke Rowan, and Smith each collected a hit in the loss.

Mortimer Jordan 10 – Cullman 2 (Softball)

After a scoreless first inning, Mortimer Jordan hit a solo home run to lead off the second to give them a 1-0 lead. The Lady Blue Devils put up four more runs in the top of the third inning to push their lead to 5-0, but Cullman’s Kacie West scored on an error in their half to cut it to 5-1. Mortimer Jordan, though, scored four more runs in the fourth to make it 9-1, and added one more in the sixth to give them a 10-1 lead. An RBI single by Reese Hopper cut it to 10-2, but Cullman didn’t get any closer after that as they ended up falling to the Lady Blue Devils 10-2.

Hopper finished with a pair of hits and an RBI for Cullman (8-8). Brie Voss added a pair of hits, while Kylie Stracener, Taylor Au and Samantha Johnson each collected a hit in the loss.

Good Hope 8 – Southeastern 3 (Softball)

The game was tied at 0-0 going into the top of the third, but Southeastern scored first on a Good Hope error to give them a 1-0 lead. The Lady Raiders quickly countered in their half as Molly Benefield hit a leadoff home run to tie the game up at one. Kynzlee Garmon and Lizzy Steed hit back-to-back one-out singles, then one out later, Campbell Koch hit a two-run double to right field to give them a 3-1 lead.

Good Hope added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth as a pair of RBI doubles by Benefield and Garmon push their lead to 5-1. An RBI groundout by the Lady Mustangs cut it to 5-2 in the top of the fifth, and they made it 5-3 in the top of the sixth on an RBI single. Good Hope added some insurance runs in their half. They had runners on the corners with two outs, then back-to-back RBI singles by Garmon and Steed made it 7-3. Koch drew a bases-loaded walk to give them an 8-3 lead, and the Lady Raiders would go on to get the win over Southeastern 8-3.

Koch finished with a hit and three RBIs for Good Hope (3-1). Garmon went three-for-three with two RBIs. Benefield added a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Steed collected a pair of hits and an RBI in the win.

Hanceville 9 – Fultondale 3 (Baseball)

Each team put up a run in their opening at-bats to tie the game up at one going into the second inning. Hanceville broke the tie in their half of the second. Luke Brown scored on an error, Cody Belcher hit an RBI groundout, Jake Cornelius scored on another error, Nelson Arteaga hit an RBI single and later scored on a passed ball to give the Bulldogs a 6-1 lead. Dalton Pirkle hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth to stretch Hanceville’s lead to 8-1, and Jackson Cleveland scored on an error in the sixth to make it 9-1. The Wildcats hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh to cut it to 9-3, but Cleveland and Tripp Lewis combined to strike out the next three batters to end the game as the Bulldogs picked up a 9-3 win over Fultondale.

Arteaga and Pirkle each finished with a hit and two RBIs for Hanceville (9-2). Cleveland added a hit and an RBI. Belcher ended up with an RBI and Cornelius posted a pair of hits in the win.

J.B. Pennington 13 – Holly Pond 6 (Baseball)

The game would go into the third inning tied up at one, but J.B. Pennington put up two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Holly Pond countered in their half as Jayden Holloway scored on a wild pitch, and Tristan Hibbert hit a two-run single to give them a 4-3 lead. An error allowed the Tigers to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth, and they added four more runs in the fifth to make it 9-4. An RBI single by Hibbert in their half made it 9-5, but J.B. Pennington put up four runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to take a 13-5 lead. Brody Howard scored on a wild pitch in Holly Pond’s half to cut it to 13-6, but they didn’t get any closer after that, as they ended up dropping their game to the Tigers 13-6.

Hibbert finished with a pair of hits and three RBIs for Holly Pond (1-8). Howard added a pair of hits, while Sawyer Olinger and Bradly Butts each collected a hit in the loss.

Vinemont 21 – Locust Fork 4 (Baseball)

Vinemont didn’t waste any time getting the offense going early as a two-run double by Jake Hale in their opening half gave them a 2-0 lead. Locust Fork tied the game up at two in the top of the second, but the Eagles countered in their half as Kayden Henderson hit an RBI single, Hale added a sacrifice fly, and Rush Sandlin hit an RBI single of his own to give them a 5-2 lead. A two-run single by the Hornets in the top of the third to cut it to 5-4, but Vinemont responded in their half in a big way. They sent 18 batters to the plate and scored 16 runs, with the final three runs of the game coming off the bat of Owen McKinney as his three-run home run put the finishing touches on a 21-4 win for the Eagles.

McKinney finished with two hits and a game-high five RBIs for Vinemont (12-3). Rylan McRae added a hit and four RBIs. Sandlin posted a trio of hits and three RBIs. Hale collected a hit and three RBIs. Michael Foust finished with a hit and two RBIs. Henderson and Hayden Robinson each ended up with a hit and an RBI, while Nicolas Jankowski collected an RBI in the win.

J.B. Pennington 7 – Vinemont 1 (Softball)

Vinemont struck first in the home half of the first inning. They loaded the bases, and Arleigh Thomason hit an RBI groundout to give them the early 1-0 lead. J.B. Pennington ended up getting two runs in the top of the fourth, four in the fifth, and one more in the seventh to take their game over the Lady Eagles 7-1.

Thomason finished with the only RBI of the game for Vinemont (0-6). Emma Dortch and Haley Millwood collected a pair of hits, while Callie Millwood, Maci Smith and Brooklyn Knott each ended up with a hit in the loss.

Hayden 11 – West Point 9 (Softball)

Both teams lit up the scoreboard in their opening at-bats. An RBI double by Macie Brown, a two-run double by Kylee Quinn, and a two-run home run off the bat of Kara Jones gave West Point an early 5-0 lead, but Hayden countered in their half, scoring six runs to take a 6-5 lead. The Lady Wildcats added a run in the bottom of the second and one more in the fourth to take an 8-5 lead. A pair of bases-loaded walks and a wild pitch allowed the Lady Warriors to tie the game up at eight in the top of the fifth, but Hayden scored three runs in their half to break the tie and take an 11-8 lead. Sidney Burks hit a leadoff home run in the sixth to cut it to 11-9, but they ended up falling just short at the end to the Lady Wildcats 11-9.

Jones (two hits) and Quinn (one hit) each finished with a pair of RBIs for West Point (6-3). Burks added three hits and an RBI. Wilkins and Brown each ended up with a hit and an RBI, while Shadix collected an RBI in the loss.
