HANCEVILLE, Ala. – At its regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, the Hanceville City Council welcomed Hanceville Police Chief Joshua Howell, who shared exciting news about an upcoming revitalization to the HPD dispatch office.

“We’re going to revamp all of dispatch, which has been needed to be done for years,” explained Howell, noting renovations to be made to improve office functionality and performance. These include installing a bathroom closer to the dispatch workroom, removing a wall between the dispatch office and break room, raising the ceiling, installing new consoles and purchasing new chairs.

Howell and Mayor Kenneth Nail estimated the project will take two weeks, with dispatchers working with Cullman County dispatchers while work is being completed. All calls made from Hanceville will at that time be forwarded to Cullman County.

The renovation is possible because of two grants from the Alabama 911 Board totaling $50,000.
