CULLMAN, Ala. – Representatives of several nonprofits in Cullman met at The Link of Cullman County’s Gathering Place on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023. Over cups of coffee and glazed donuts, they chatted about upcoming projects, initiatives and workshops they plan to host – all funded by Alabama’s Mountains, Rivers & Valleys RC&D Council, which awarded $51,000 in grants to get these much-needed projects accomplished.

The Council worked in tandem with Cullman area legislators to grant the funds to the Cullman County Soil and Water Conservation District, Cullman County Commission, The Link of Cullman County, West Point FFA, Crane Hill Volunteer Fire Department, The Foundry Ministries and the North Alabama Agriplex Board.

Attending legislator Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman, noted the importance of applying for grants, singing high praises of the work that grants like these fund, chiming in, “Believe it or not, there are certain counties in this state that the money is there, but people aren’t asking for it.”

Gudger continued, “What I love about this county, is that when we get more money we’re going to use it, and put it to good use. Everybody here today, and more out there, are helping this community be the best it can possibly be.”

Gudger spoke plainly about Cullman’s nonprofit impact on the state at large, saying, “Throughout the state, people are watching us: how we handle people, how we treat people and the programs we have to make a difference for the people walking through those doors every day,” he said, pointing to the doors of The Link’s Gathering Place.

The Council is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports educational and community development projects in North Central Alabama. The Council serves Cullman, Morgan, Madison, Limestone, Marshall, Jackson and DeKalb counties. For more information on grants it provides, visit https://amrvrcd.org/grants/.
