Lights on 436 introduces new patriotic show ahead of Independence Day

CULLMAN, Ala. – Ronnie Allred, the creative mind behind the local Christmas light show known as Lights on 436, has added a new holiday to his repertoire. Residents can ride by and see a fantastical patriotic light show, running every evening until Sunday, July 9, 2023. The show is about half an hour and features Americana classics like “Fortunate Son” and “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” as well as little snippets of holiday comedy and speeches.

Allred noted he has at least 40 hours in programming the show and about 12 hours in setup, but he said it’s hard to keep track overall for such a labor of love as this.

“It’s a hobby, so you sometimes don’t keep up with the time it takes to build the show,” he said. “It’s more about seeing the finished product.”

Allred said the community impact of the show was surprising at first, given that it was a fairly new hobby he picked up simply to kill some time.

“I never thought that it would impact the community in such a positive way when I started trying to figure out how to put a show together. I was really just trying to find something I enjoyed doing in my spare time,” he explained. “Now I believe I have a passion for this. I believe the show puts a smile on everyone’s face that sees it, and in the times we live in it’s nice to be able to spread some joy!”

Allred did want to add a special note, saying, “I would like to add when people come to view the show to be careful driving in the area and be respectful of others viewing the show.”

Lights on 436 is located at 5070 County Road 436, Cullman, Alabama, 35055. The show runs each evening from 8-11 p.m. and is free to enjoy. Tune in to 100.1 to hear the music in sync with the lights.
