CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Police Department (CPD) on Wednesday released a statement warning local women to use caution while shopping.

The CPD said it has received two reports of subjects (male and female) approaching women at local businesses. According to the police, one of the subjects distracts the victim, while the other grabs the wallet from her purse. The CPD said this happened at TJ Maxx and Wal-Mart.

According to Cullman Police Chief David Nassetta, both women were approached by a male who was speaking a different language.

“Both victims felt uncomfortable by how close he was trying to get and did not realize that they had anything stolen from them,” he said. “We are currently trying to obtain video from the stores to try to identify the suspects or any vehicles that they may be using.”

The CPD asks that women please stay vigilant and secure their purses the best they can.
