CULLMAN, Ala. – Christmas entertainment continued in Cullman over the weekend with Christmas in Cullman’s Christkindlmarkt held Dec. 9-11 at Festhalle and the surrounding area. Holiday shopping, along with free activities for children and authentic German food were plentiful over the three-day event, which was well attended despite the at times rainy conditions.

In its second year, Christkindlmarkt was another notch in the belt of success for Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism (CPRST), the award-winning agency that continues to set the bar high for special holiday events in Cullman.

Adults and children alike enjoyed roasted marshmallows while the city’s 42-foot tall Christmas tree at Depot Park and 30-foot tall German pyramid next to the Cullman County Museum provided a fitting holiday backdrop.

“This year’s Christkindlmarkt was a tremendous success,” CPRST Executive Director Nathan Anderson shared. “In spite of the wet conditions, we experienced incredible growth in attendance. I could not be more proud of our team and the support we experienced from the mayor, Cullman City Council and our Parks Board. We are looking forward to growing the market next year.”

Many local vendors made their wares available in their wooden huts, an homage to German Christmas markets, including Brickyard Meats and Leldon’s Wooden Arts. Crafters and vendors from other areas made the trip to Cullman to participate in Christkindlmarkt as well.

A favorite of the children’s activities was the interactive snow globe which enabled the youngsters to throw and play in artificial snow. Face painting, penning letters to Santa Claus and creating Christmas ornaments and other memory making activities were enjoyed.
