HOLLY POND, Ala. – In this interview, I talked to Holly Pond softball player Addison Armstrong, who will be majoring in Agricultural Business at Wallace State Community College and will have the same major when she transfers to Auburn.

Addison made a lot of great softball and high school memories during her time at Holly Pond.

“Some of my favorite memories from softball was winning area and we have qualified for regionals every year I have played,” Armstrong said. “Another favorite memory is when we had a parents vs. players game even though the parents won. When me and my older sister played together, she was my biggest cheerleader, and we made the best memories together through softball. Another one of my best memories is when Brooke Hill hit a walk-off in our area tournament, allowing us to advance to regionals. We are all so proud of her.”

Addison added,

“Some of my favorite memories from high school would be when our softball team went to regionals, and we stayed up all night just playing games and talking. Another one would be when we put confetti and balloons all over the school for our senior prank. I loved going to the track meets to support my sister, Gracie Armstrong, and my boyfriend, Kadin Suryono. Another one of my favorite memories would have been our FFA class and being able to learn about agriculture with my favorite teacher, Mr. Roden. He made school so much more enjoyable. And lastly, I loved being an office aide. Mrs. Hogeland was always there for anyone who needed something and I’m so grateful for her.”

Armstrong feels blessed to have played for some great coaches at Holly Pond and learned an awful lot from them in the process.

“Destry Stone has been my coach since I was in the fourth grade and he has made such an impact on my life,” Armstrong said. “He has taught me how to work hard and be confident in myself. He is more like a dad, and I am so thankful to of had him in my life as a coach. He truly is one in a million. From the late games to the early tournaments, he has always encouraged me and my team to be the best we can be. I can’t say thank you enough to him! Also, Jason Widner has been one of my coaches since I was young. He was always pushing me to be the best I could be and never giving up on me! I’m going to miss them so much, but I am so grateful for the time I had learning from them.”

Addison is carrying many memories with her from Holly Pond to college she and talked about what she’ll miss the most.

“I have learned confidence and how to accomplish anything I put my mind to,” Armstrong said. “Also, I have learned so much from my Ag class; it has inspired me to go into Ag business in college. Holly Pond is a family, and I am so honored to have been a part of it. This family has taught me not just education, but so many life lessons and how to be independent and strong.”

Addison continued,

“What I will miss the most about Holly Pond is the people. I am going to miss my friends and my teachers. I’m also going to miss softball; it has helped shape me into the person I am today. I’m so grateful for this sport and the people that made it enjoyable.”‘

Addison gave some advice to those students that are preparing to start their high school careers in a couple of months. “Some advice I would give to incoming freshmen is to really soak up every minute of high school because it’s over so quickly,” Armstrong said.
