ADDISON, Ala. — Addison hosted the 3A Elkmont Red Devils at Allen Stephenson Gym and came away with a solid 55-41 win. Addison improves to 16-12 on the season.

Elkmont rolled into Addison on Saturday night with high hopes and rolled back up Interstate 65 feeling blue and not from the chilly air. The Addison Bulldogs, playing some of their best basketball of the season right now, easily dispatched the 3A Elkmont Red Devils.

The game started off with Addison passing the ball well, knocking down shots, forcing turnovers and winning the battle of the boards to take a 20-9 lead at the end of the first period. Addison’s three guard back court consisting of Senior Eli Howse, Junior Brady Gilbreath and Freshman Jed Wilkins dominated. Gilbreath put in seven points, dished out two assists and nabbed four rebounds. Howse had four points and Wilkins had three points with two assists. Elkmont tried to keep up but just didn’t have the horses on this night. Junior Conner Newton led the Devils with three points and three other Devils had two points.

The second period was not a thing of beauty as neither team could hit a shot and in general played fairly sloppy. Turnovers were much more abundant than points as Addison outscored Elkmont 9-5 to take a 29-14 lead at the half. Addison’s Wilkins carried the Dawgs in scoring as he had seven of the Dawgs nine points in the period. Elkmont Sophomore Cole Holt had three points to lead the Devils.

The third period was a decent period for both teams. Addison won the period 14-13 to carry a 43-27 lead into the final frame. Addison had balanced scoring as five different Bulldogs scored. Senior Justin Mather had four points. Christian Roberts and Gilbreath each had three points. Elkmont was led by Sophomore Clay Looney who had five points. Senior Rowe Allen and Junior Brandon Clem had three points apiece.

The fourth period was more of the same as Addison jumped out to a 15-point lead and let the hard working and much deserving reserves finish out the majority of the game. These young men may not log a ton of minutes in most games, but they hustle and play their tails off when they get in there and the Dawgs didn’t lose anything tonight with them on the court. Elkmont outscored the Bulldogs 14-12 in the fourth, but Addison took the victory 55-41. Elkmont Senior Jayce Teeples had five points, while Newton and Brandon Clem each had three points. The Bulldogs were led by Lane Tubb with five points and Briley Hayes had four points and two assists.

Addison Head Coach Ben Mastin,

“We are playing well right now and this is a good win. We didn’t have a letdown after a huge comeback win, we just had against Decatur Heritage the other night. This was our last home game and I thought we played excellent defense tonight. The next chance we have to play here at home is if we win the area tournament. We just need to keep having amazing and intense practices so that we can keep our momentum going.”
