HOLLY POND, Ala. – The Holly Pond Town Council on Monday evening approved a clean financial audit report for the year 2020 (The 2021 audit will be conducted later this year). The audit, examining financial aspects of “governmental activities, the business-type activities, each major fund and the aggregate remaining fund information of the Town of Holly Pond,” found all items to be “in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America.”

The council approved $9,765 to pay for the audit.

Senior building bids coming up

Public notices were run on Dec. 18 advertising bids for the Holly Pond Senior Center. The council announced that a pre-bid meeting will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2022 for anyone with questions about the project. Received bids will be opened on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 2:00 p.m. Both the pre-bid meeting and bid opening will be at the Guy Hunt Library meeting room.

Ball season coming up, staff needed

With ball season set to kick off in February, the council authorized Mayor Carla Hart to hire a part-time park director at a rate of $250 per week when town employees are available for field maintenance, and $300 for weeks when they are not. The council also authorized the hiring of one or two concession stand workers to work during games at a rate of $9 per hour.

The council also approved:

  • Up to $1,800 for 75-78 tons of crusher run gravel for the parking areas at the Holly Pond Event Center, storm shelter and other places around town as needed
  • Up to $1,500 for new tires and front-end work for one of the town’s Ranger ATVs

The council announced that the town’s Air Med-Evac dues have been paid, and that it will hold a meeting soon for residents who wish to extend their coverage outside of Cullman County at their own additional expense.

Holly Pond is also looking for a Town Clerk. While taking no action, the council discussed the terms of employment. Councilman Charles Holcomb recommended keeping the previous days of Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 8:30 a.m. each day, and employing the clerk 15-18 hours per week at a rate of $15 per hour.

The Holly Pond Town Council meets at 6:00 p.m. on the first Monday of each month in the meeting room at Guy Hunt Library. The public is invited to attend.
