Vinemont Town Council approved block grant for Community Development

VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Town Council held a public hearing Tuesday evening to discuss the application for a Community Development block grant. The grant is for the construction of an unnamed business which will be located on the high school road and generate 52 new jobs. Mike Graves listed the business’ projected jobs, saying, “total jobs are 52–45 team members, six managers, one area coach.” The estimated annual sales total of the business is 1.7 million dollars. Graves also suggested the business will be a good opportunity for teenagers at the school without vehicles to find employment.

At the Town of Vinemont regular council meeting, several items were approved:

  • The resolution 2021-12-01 allowing the mayor to apply for Community Development Block Grant
  • The ordinance No: 2021-12-01 Annexation Property on 1296. The property is at the corner of 1296 and Goodwin Rd.
  • The resolution 2021-12-02 to surplus two 4-Wheelers was. The funds will go into the towns general fund. 

The council gave a Proclamation that January 2022 will be Human Trafficking Awareness Month. The mayor stated, “From what I understand, there’s been a situation come up where a lot of human trafficking has transpired at the rest areas on the Interstate.” Dodson said the trafficking has been occurring at the Tennessee/ Alabama line and at Good Hope.

In other business:

  • The council approved the mayor and council to attend the Municipal Official Advocacy Day and training for FY 2022. 
  • The council allowed the Clerk to attend training conferences/institutes for FY 2022 and approved funds for registration fees, hotel, food and mileage for both.
  • The Ordinance 2021-11-01 (ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT (1/2%) SALES TAX) was approved. This tax levy would be for the purpose of funding the general fund and would be collected by the Cullman County Commission Sales Tax/Revenue Office. Chris Thompson made a motion to approve the ordinance and Charlotte Cosper seconded. Sonya Copeland was the only council member to vote against the tax. Thompson stated, “It will be good for the town, and we can do a lot for the town with the money.”

South Vinemont Town Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Vinemont Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
