GOOD HOPE, Ala. — Good Hope hosted Susan Moore in Saturday night hoops action and both teams picked up wins in their home openers. The Lady Raiders rolled past the Lady Bulldogs 62-41 while a huge fourth quarter by the Raiders pushed them past the Bulldogs 64-56.

Good Hope 62 – Susan Moore 41 (Varsity Girls)

Good Hope’s Ivey Maddox scored her 1,000th point in last Saturday’s game against Pisgah and was presented with the game ball just before the Lady Raiders’ game against Susan Moore and she added a few more points to that total Saturday night. The Lady Bulldogs, though, jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. Then Good Hope got it going on both sides of the ball. Charly Johnson got a layup to go to get the scoring started for the Lady Raiders; that started a 13-0 run as a Heather Tetro layup gave Good Hope a 13-5 lead. The Lady Bulldogs were able to trim the deficit to five at 13-8 after one.

Bailey Tetro scored the first five points of the second period for the Lady Raiders as the lead swelled to 10 at 18-8 with 7:16 remaining in the first half. A pair of Susan Moore free throws made it an eight-point game, but Maddox, who got held scoreless in the first period, got red-hot as she scored 12 straight points. Back-to-back baskets by Maddox gave the Lady Raiders a 32-23 lead and they went into the half holding a 32-25 lead.

A Susan Moore basket trimmed the Good Hope lead to five to start out the third period, but the Lady Raiders went on another huge run as they scored 10 straight points, with half of those points being scored by Renee McLeod, to help stretch their lead to 42-27. Good Hope would take a 44-30 lead into the final period.

The Lady Raiders continued to stretch their lead in the final period as a pair of free throws by McLeod and a trey by Maddox pushed their lead to 49-32 and later on, four free throws by Rudi Derrick and a pair of free throws by Maddox increased their lead to 55-34. Good Hope would go on to pull away from Susan Moore and take the game 62-41.

Maddox finished with 21 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals for Good Hope (1-1). Bailey Tetro added 13 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Derrick ended up with 12 points, five rebounds, and a steal. Heather Tetro added seven points and three steals. McLeod also finished with seven points, along with five rebounds and a block, while Johnson chipped in with two points and four rebounds. The Lady Raiders will travel to take part in the Thanksgiving tournament in Hartselle on Tuesday and Wednesday. They will take on Mortimer Jordan on Tuesday at 3:20 p.m.

Good Hope 64 – Susan Moore 56 (Varsity Boys)

Similar to the varsity girls’ game, Good Hope got off to a slow start as Susan Moore quickly jumped out to an 8-0 with 5:31 remaining in the opening period. Consecutive baskets down low by Colton Lindsey got the Raiders on the scoreboard; their defense shut down the Bulldogs offense while their offense continued to get easy baskets down low. A short jumper by Noah Barnette and layups by K’mal Bell and Lindsey gave Good Hope a 10-8 lead, but Susan Moore got a shot to fall to tie the game at 10 going into the second period.

Each team traded baskets to start out the second period. It went on for several possessions before a Weston Hancock layup gave the Raiders an 18-17 lead with 3:40 remaining in the first half. Later on, back-to-back baskets by Dakota Overton and Lindsey made it a 22-19 game with less than three minutes to go in the first half. The Raiders held a 26-21 lead after layups by Tucker Malin and Barnette and they held a 30-26 lead after a Lindsey made basket, but the Bulldogs drilled a three just before the buzzer to trim the deficit to one at the half.

A made shot by Hancock gave Good Hope a 36-33 lead, but the Bulldogs went on a 10-1 run to take a 43-37 lead. Layups by Jacob Haynes and Lindsey trimmed the deficit to just two at 43-41, but Susan Moore quickly pushed their lead to 50-43 and the Raiders found themselves trailing, 50-44, going into the final period.

A huge three by Tucker Malin made it a three-point game to start out the final quarter, but Susan Moore pushed the lead back up to six with a three of their own. Then Bell took over, scoring Good Hope’s next eight points, as part of an 8-1 run, and that gave Good Hope a 55-54 lead. The Bulldogs got the lead right back, but that would be the last time that they would score the rest of the way, as Lindsey, Bell and Cannan Jones scored the Raiders’ final nine points of the game. Good Hope (1-0) ended up winning their home opener over Susan Moore 64-56.

Lindsey had a huge game for the Raiders, finishing with a double-double: 18 points, 13 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. Bell added 14 points and four rebounds. Hancock also ended up with four points as well, along with three rebounds. Jones ended up with three points and a steal, while Overton chipped in with two points and three steals.
