GOOD HOPE, Ala. – After knocking off Etowah on the road last week, the Raiders returned home for another regional matchup against Fultondale. Good Hope got off to a slow start in this one but took control of the game down the stretch before pulling away to win it 28-3.

Fultondale won the toss and elected to receive. The Raiders’ defense forced the Wildcats to punt after just three plays and Good Hope’s offense was able to respond right away. It took just six plays for the Raiders to find the end zone and they led the way 6-0 early in the first after Jager Burns punched in the first touchdown of the night from 4 yards out. The Wildcats were able to put a drive together later in the first half and got close enough in the red zone to kick a field goal and cut lead to 6-3.

Good Hope answered with a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tanner Malin to Charlie O’Neil late in the second quarter to extend the Raiders’ lead to 12-3 at the halftime break.

The Raiders received the ball to start the third quarter and in two short plays Ethan Anderson got loose for a 63-yard touchdown run that made it a 20-3 game early in the second half. Neither offense could get anything going the rest of the third quarter and Good Hope led 20-3 at the start of the fourth.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Raiders put things away when Malin took one to the house for a 51-yard touchdown run and put Good Hope on top 28-3 late in the game. The Raiders held on to win it over Fultondale 28-3 to remain unbeaten in the region and improve to 6-2 on the year.

After the game, Good Hope Head Coach Alan Scott was happy with his team’s effort in the win and wants to continue to work and improve as the postseason approaches.

“I am proud of our guys’ effort tonight,” Scott said. “We have several things that we need to clean up moving forward, but to secure a playoff spot is a testament to our players’ effort. We just need to get back to work on Monday and keep moving forward.”

The Raiders will be back home next week to play Dora in another big region matchup.
