CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday evening took time to recognize Cullman Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Jeff Adams and staff for a recent award presented to the plant. The Alabama Water and Pollution Control Association on Aug. 18, 2021 presented an Award of Excellence to the plant for its bio-filter and trickling filter operations in 2020.

When the council got down to business, it awarded a bid to Hanceville-based Powe General Contracting for a sidewalk renovation project on 2nd Avenue Northeast from Arnold Street to Oak Drive, funded by an Alabama Department of Transportation Transportation Alternatives Program grant in the amount of $1,138,342.85.  The City also received bids from Gregory Construction Services Inc. of Columbus, Mississippi ($1,665,770.47) and Gillespie Construction LLC of Jasper, Alabama ($1,260,505.71). The grant, usually called a TAP grant, funds streetscape improvements to make sidewalks and street crossings more accessible to people with handicaps. The designated street will join multiple others already improved under TAP grants in downtown Cullman.

The council also approved resolutions to:

  • Authorize Mayor Woody Jacobs to purchase property located on Third Avenue Southwest, diagonal from the existing city parking deck.
  • Award the bid for the furnishing and laying of hot mix to the lowest responsible bidder, Wiregrass Construction Company.
  • Award the bid for hot mix and cold mix to the lowest responsible bidder, Wiregrass Construction Company.
  • Award the bid for water inventory materials to the lowest responsible bidder, G & C Supply Company.
  • Renew the City’s contract with Air Med Care Network Group for Air Evac employee family coverage.

The Cullman City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at Cullman City Hall. The public is invited to attend.
