CULLMAN, Ala. – Community Connect is a free safety information site available to all Cullman residents aiming to better prepare for emergencies. Its launch was announced at the Cullman City Council meeting on Aug. 10.

Cullman Fire Rescue Chief Darren Peeples stated, “This is a very secure environment. Our Information Technology Director, Jacob Smith, looked at it today. You’ll be able to fill out information so when we get a call to your address it’ll pop up your address as we are en route and we can click on different links and any information you fill out.”

He explained, “As the address pops up is when we see it. It is not something that is shared. We would like the community to begin to work on that.”

At communityconnect.io the “What is Community Connect” video gives insight on information important for responders to know in the event of an emergency. This information includes the number of individuals in a household, mobility restrictions, the number of pets or livestock, whether someone speaks a different language and household details such as bedroom layouts or the locations of any potential hazardous materials.

By inputting other critical information such as gate and door codes, whether there is a pool or basement, how to cut off water and electricity and where your family’s emergency safe place is located, emergency response can be streamlined.

Be sure to include your pets. Listing details of their needs and uploading pictures of your pets can help them be spotted easily and cared for properly after evacuation.

Community Connect suggests inputting emergency contacts as well. If there is an emergency at your property and you cannot be reached, your listed emergency contact may be able to give vital information about the household and know how to contact you.
