Allen “Allie” Snider was born Aug. 13, 1894 in Blount County, Alabama. The Snider family lived in Hanceville. His father, George Franklin Snider, served in the Confederate Army for four years during the Civil War.

Allie entered the Army April 2, 1918, and was a member of Company K 113th Infantry. His mother, Elizabeth McMurray Snider, would write in her son’s biography, “(He) Was wounded somewhere in France and returned to the States March 28, 1919.” Snider died on the operating table at Fort McPherson April 29, 1919.

Elizabeth said of her son, “He was a good boy and loved by all who knew him.” In a letter sent to Montgomery with the biography, she wrote, “Dear Friend, will you please return this picture, as this is the only one I have.”

Allie Snider and his parents are buried at Bethlehem East Cemetery in Hanceville, Alabama. He is memorialized at Cullman’s Veterans Memorial Park.
