CULLMAN, Ala. – The City of Cullman Planning Commission in August approved a short-form subdivision request for Murphy Oil USA. Back in May, the proposed site plan was approved, with contingencies from the city engineer relating to the Alabama Department of Transportation traffic and safety plan. At the Commission’s meeting on Monday, Nov. 2, an additional proposal for the site plan was discussed that would add a 7 Brew Coffee to the project at 800 Second Ave. NW.
Two representatives from Brew Culture, LLC, 7 Brew Coffee’s corporate entity, addressed the Commission in an attempt to allay concerns about safety at the proposed new location.
Commissioners said the area sees high traffic for numerous reasons, particularly, according to Commissioner Cheryl Harrison, because of nearby schools. She said the new location would add on to existing traffic congestion from school drop-off and pick-up times.
Chairman Michael Sullins noted that while the project’s previous ALDOT contingencies were resolved, further resolution may be needed due to community safety concerns.
Ultimately, the item was tabled until the Commission’s meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2026.
The Commission did approve a site plan for an expansion at 1206 Sixth St. SW, located within Industrial Park 2. The local industrial development is home to Backstage Productions, which focuses on professional audio, video, lighting, rigging and staging to events, and will be adding a loading dock.
Two proposed annexations were given favorable recommendations:
- On U.S. Highway 278 E, Two Brothers LLC requested property be annexed into the corporate city of Cullman. The request letter read that the purpose is to facilitate the future development of the 5.7-acre site into a service station.
- On Alabama Highway 157 NE, 39 acres just east of Northbrook Baptist Church are currently under contract for retail. The property owner, Billy Jackson, addressed the Commission and requested the property be annexed.
The City of Cullman Planning Commission will meet next on Tuesday, Dec 1, at Cullman City Hall at 5:30 p.m.
