CULLMAN, Ala. – Merchants Bank on Wednesday presented checks totaling $21,000 to three local charities: Cullman Caring for Kids, Good Samaritan Health Clinic and Hospice of Cullman County each received $7,000 from the proceeds of the bank’s 27th annual Merchants Charity Classic Golf Tournament held at Terri Pines Country Club Sept. 28. In addition to the three local charities, a donation will also be made to the Boys and Girls Ranches of Alabama.

Merchants Bank Vice President Ross West told The Tribune, “Earlier this year with the way 2020’s been, we (weren’t) sure if we could even have it (the golf tournament), so to be able to get to this point where we’re giving away over $20,000, it was a huge success.”

West noted, “The tournament wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors and the golfers that show up and play. We had 33 teams, almost a full field, so with the way the year’s been, to still have that kind of turnout was a huge success. We just couldn’t do it without our community support.

“The bank doing this tournament is not possible without the community support, and in turn we get to turn around and give this money to three great organizations. It makes Cullman special, that we’re able to do this. Everybody at Merchants Bank, we’re glad that we’re able to give back to the community.”
