WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Town Council on Monday night made plans for the official swearing in of the mayor and council for their next terms. Mayor Gerald Schafer and all five councilmembers were unopposed in August’s Municipal Election. The swearing in ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. at West Point Town Hall. Refreshments will be served.

The council suspended the rules to allow for a vote on the annexation of citizen Rebecca Manley’s property. The annexation was approved.

With no other old or new business on the agenda, Schafer briefly updated the council on projects happening around West Point. He said Good Hope Contracting is expected to start this week on the repaving of County Road 1141. He said the streetlights that needed maintenance have been fixed, and the bathroom stalls at the ballpark are currently having touchless toilets installed.

New signs have been constructed and installed at the town hall and park. The new brick signs have been in the works for several months.

Schafer said of the finished signs, “Looks better than it did!”
