CULLMAN, Ala. – HomTex in Cullman has been awarded a contract to provide the United States Capitol complex with masks.

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Alabama, announced on social media Friday:

“All this week we’ve been celebrating Made in America Week. Well, for our final post, I’m excited to announce that HomTex Inc. in Cullman has been awarded a contract to provide the United States Capitol complex with masks. I’ve been wearing their masks for a while, and now every member, whether Democrat or Republican, staff and visitors, will be soon be wearing masks made right in the 4th District and Cullman, Alabama! Congratulations!”

Aderholt’s office said the masks will be supplied to members, staff and visitors.

On Friday afternoon, HomTex Vice President of Apparel Maury Lyon told The Tribune, “We are obviously very pleased at HomTex. We’ve been providing washable masks since March with the pivot in our business done by our CEO Jerry Wootten, and we submitted ourselves to the U.S. Capitol- the Architect of the Capitol- for consideration for masks back in May. They did some vetting and they gave our masks some tests, and they contacted us and we’ve been in contact with them. Later on this summer they indicated that they really liked our masks and wanted to move forward, and we were able to provide them the production capacity and the needs that they had, so our first delivery was last Wednesday.

“So we’re excited, and we’re going to be providing weekly deliveries up there, and they’re going to be providing black and white HomTex masks to all of the senators, congressmen, their staff, the visitors to the Congress and we believe also the White House. We’re extremely honored to provide for the safety of our elected men and women.”

An email from HomTex to Aderholt’s office (provided to The Tribune by Aderholt’s office) said:

I wanted to let you know some great news from the home district. HomTex, a textile manufacturer in Cullman, recently won the contract to supply House Members, Senators, staff, employees, and visitors with PPE masks through the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) under our Sovereign America brand made in Alabama. We made our first delivery last Wednesday! As an Alabama certified minority-owned company, we are proud to protect the Congress while they conduct the nation’s business.

Mr. Aderholt helped us with a customs matter a few months ago, and our great friend, Juanita Duggan, saw him at a function in DC wearing a HomTex mask. Thank you so much for the help and the support! Governor Ivey visited Cullman this week, and we were thrilled to let her know we are protecting the Capitol.
