Commission approves abatement for HH Technologies

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Commission on Wednesday morning approved a $189,505 tax abatement for HH Technologies, Inc. HHT, a leading “a leading supplier of high-performance, automated door systems, portable evaporative cooling systems and contract manufacturing services,” is making a $3.35 million capital investment in the community of Bremen, where it has been since 1978.

Cullman Economic Development Agency Project Manager Luke Satterfield explained, “That’s a job with a 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the county. Fifteen jobs will be created in the beginning.”

The project is expected to generate $125,000 in education revenue.

In other business, the Cullman County Commission also:

  • Ratified the contract amendment by and between Cullman County Commission and Cullman County Partnership for Children, Inc.
  • Ratified the signing of TRANE maintenance agreement by Commissioner Kerry Watson for the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office/Detention Center to change out air filters at a cost of $5,548.38
  • Authorized Chairman Kenneth Walker to sign a one-year contract with TRANE for scheduled maintenance and block of hours if maintenance is needed for the sheriff’s office and jail buildings at a cost of $15,150
  • Authorized Walker to sign a memorandum of agreement between the State of Alabama and Cullman County Commission for Federal Exchange Funds
  • Authorized Walker to sign a concurrence of award letter for resurfacing and traffic stripe on County Road 1141
  • Approved a donation of $300 to the Cullman County Farm-City Committee
  • Approved the purchase of three mapping computers for reappraisal from TSA at a cost of $7,320
  • Approved a two-year contract with Cullman County Engineer Bryan Cheatwood for $100,000 per year.
  • Approved the transfer of the former Crane Hill Senior Center Building to the Crane Hill Volunteer Fire Department
  • Approved expenditures for septic system at the Stony Lonesome storm shelter
  • Authorized EMA Director Phyllis Little to sign the State Local Disaster Assistance Agreement
  • Approved a one-year maintenance agreement with Johnson Technologies, Inc. for battery backups for the sheriff’s office
  • Authorized the annual payment to the ACCA Workers Compensation Fund Oct. 1, 2020 for workers comp insurance from Oct.1, 2020 until Oct.1, 2021 at a cost of $529,598.58
  • Approved agreement with Gerber Life Insurance Company/Unity RE to provide employee health stop-loss insurance for FY2021 at a cost of $660,664. Gerber Life Insurance Company/Unity RE’s quote was 7% more than current costs but 8% less than the renewal quote from the current carrier.
  • Approved plat for 587 subdivision, a minor subdivision consisting of four lots located on County Road 587 in District 4
  • Approved plat for Duck Creek Estates, a minor subdivision consisting of 15 lots located on County Road 1669 and 1668 in District 4
  • Approved plat for Duck River Estates, a minor subdivision consisting of six lots located on County Road 1650 in District 4.
  • Approved plat for Bevel Estates, a minor subdivision consisting of six lots located on County Road 39 in District 2.
  • Extended bid for six months to Harris Steel for structural steel
  • Extended bid for six months to Harris Steel for reinforcing steel
  • Extended bid for one year to Havoline Express Lube for services (oil changes) to sheriff’s deputy and other various County vehicles
  • Awarded bid to Advanced Asphalt Products and Good Hope Contracting Company for cold laid plant mix

 

The next commission work session will be Sept. 22, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. followed by the commission meeting at 10 a.m. in the commission meeting room on the first floor of the Cullman County Courthouse.
