CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday evening recognized city wastewater operator Shannon J. Calloway for passing the Wastewater Grade IV certification test.

Wastewater Superintendent Jeff Adams said, “I’ve been superintendent for nine years; this is my second guy that’s passed the Grade IV. We’re a Grade III plant, and I give the guys two years to pass the (Grade III) test, or we have to find somebody else. To legally operate a plant, you’ve got to have your certification. So, we’re a Grade III plant, but he went one step above, has a Grade IV.”

Calloway worked his way through Grades II and III before taking the top test, and spent two years preparing. He brought with him the stack of 10 manuals that formed his study guide. According to Adams, the Grade IV exam has only a 14% pass rate.
