CULLMAN, Ala. – Temple Baptist Church’s homeless ministry, Unsheltered International, will be delivering free Thanksgiving meals Saturday, Nov. 23 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Volunteers from the church will prepare and deliver the meals.
Unsheltered International Event Coordinator Tim Barbee shared, “We’re just trying to be a blessing and trying to help people spread the glory of God. This is part of what we do; we’re just showing the glory of God and showing that they’re loved.”
He said the meal is not just for the homeless; it’s for anyone in need.
“It is a meal for the homeless there in Cullman. It’s also for the needy families that may need something like that. We will be delivering meals to the people that call in and give us their address and how many people are in their home. We also have a ‘small kitchen’ that we’re going to carry to the areas of the Economy Inn… I have to talk to the motel owners, but places that I know where people live in the hotels week to week, and they’re on a lower income basis. We’re just taking the trailer from place to place to kind of help. We’re just trying to show people that they’re still loved, no matter the situation.”
The meals will consist of turkey, dressing, green beans and a roll. Each meal will also have a dessert prepared by the women of Temple Baptist. Barbee said the meals are made possible by donations from supporters of Unsheltered International.
Unsheltered asks those in need to RSVP by Nov. 16. You can RSVP by calling 256-737-0112 ext. 180 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Barbee said of Unsheltered International: “We are a homeless ministry that is based out of Temple Baptist Church there in Cullman. We help the community itself as far as anyone that needs clothing. We have a warehouse that’s located in Cullman County that has clothing, hygiene products and a shower and washer and dryer for anyone that needs that kind of thing.”
Unsheltered began in January 2011.
