CULLMAN, Ala. — The 2nd Annual Flourish of Cullman Putting F-O-R-E Independence Golf Tournament took place Saturday morning at Cross Creek Golf Course. Seven teams of four had a great day on the links and all for a great cause.

The early morning tee time and morning cloud cover provided some relief from the heat. By lunchtime, the teams had completed their rounds and turned in their scores just in time for a great lunch.

Coming in 1st place and winning $750 was Team Varden with Keith Varden, Sylas Elliott, Mike Phillips and Gary Nunn. The team was sponsored by Premier Bank of the South. 2nd Place and $500 went to Mulligan’s Island with Russell Standridge, David Bate, Daniel Bates and Ben Faulk. 3rd place and $250 went to Team Lewey with Doug Lewey, Carol Lewey, Ken Allum and Ed Calvert.

Retired coach Doug Lewey was all smiles as the last team to finish had their score posted and he learned his team held on to third place. He said to Flourish Director Melissa Dew, “I appreciate what you do. I can assure you that we think like you think. We are all important.”

Dew thanked everyone who came out. She said, “It means a lot that you show up and play at our golf tournament.” The money raised from Saturday’s tournament will help as Flourish is nearing the completion of their new facility.

Dew said, “We are so close! The floor is going in. We’ll be going in there in the next three weeks. Then we’ll start work on the other side. It’s going to be an independent living center where they can try and see if they can stay the night by themselves.” Flourish of Cullman helps members of our community with differing abilities to live, work and play independently.
