BERLIN, Ala. –  At is regular May meeting, the Berlin Town Council voted to enter into a general obligation bond with Citizens Bank and Trust to help finance a property purchase in hopes of eventually building a town hall. Monday night, the council held a special-called meeting to finalize the deal with an ordinance.

The agreement to enter a $75,000 bond to help purchase 20 acres of property next to the Berlin Community Center, where the council currently meets, was officially signed with little debate.

Afterward, the council discussed the possibility of getting an owner’s title insurance policy, though that would require a full survey of the property. While members discussed the idea of getting the entire property surveyed (including areas not being purchased) for future reference, no decisions were made.

The next regular meeting of the Berlin Town Council will be Monday, June 17 at 7 p.m.
