Students and others honored

Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette recognized Fairview Elementary students Oaklyn Gardner and Lincoln Wright, winners respectively of the 9-10-year old girls’ and boys’ divisions of the County and North Alabama District Hoop Shoot.  Gardner also placed second in the state competition.

Barnette also issued the Cullman County Board of Education’s inaugural Exceptional Service Awards to:

  • Abby Holcomb, Fairview Elementary volunteer and substitute
  • Diane Veach, Cold Springs Elementary Special Education paraprofessional
  • Anita Whitlock, Good Hope High English teacher

Lynette Burt was also recognized, but could not be present. She will receive her award at a future meeting.

Barnette called the award “a ‘thank you’ for recognizing the efforts of any employee, volunteer or community partner.  These are unsung heroes that give those extra efforts to further CCBOE’s vision and mission.”

The next regular Cullman County School Board meeting will be on Thursday, March 14, at 6 p.m. in the central office board room. The public is invited to attend.
