CULLMAN – For more than three years, The Cullman Tribune has followed and reported on the work of the Cullman County Human Trafficking Task Force and its efforts to educate the community on what human trafficking is, how to recognize it and how to fight it.  On Wednesday, the task force officially welcomed The Tribune onboard as its media partner.

In an ongoing print and web series, the task force will offer educational segments on various topics related to human trafficking such as spotting the signs of trafficking, keeping oneself and one’s children safe and other topics.  The multiple city, county and community agencies whose representatives make up the task force (including Cullman Police Department, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, Cullman County Courts, FBI Victim Services, Cullman County District Attorney’s Office, Cullman County Juvenile Probation, Brooks’ Place Child Advocacy Center and others) will also have the opportunity to talk about how their organizations confront trafficking and related problems like drugs (many trafficking cases involve drugs used as enticements or payments), sexual abuse and child abuse.

Task Force Chairperson and Juvenile Probation Officer Kathy Wilson said of the partnership, “A media partnership with the task force means that we can keep information out on a regular basis, raise awareness, which is the goal of the task force, (and) educate people.  And to be able to do that weekly with a media partner is fantastic. We’re so excited!”

Wilson has been invited to sit on a panel at the Alabama State Human Trafficking Summit in Montgomery this Friday.  Look for a report this weekend.
