PREP BASKETBALL: Cold Springs splits Thursday night road matchups against Good Hope

GOOD HOPE – Cold Springs traveled to take on Good Hope for some hoops action Thursday night and each team took a game by the end of the night. In the girls' game, the Lady Eagles eased past the Lady Raiders 78-34 while in the boys' matchup, Good Hope pulled away late and wound up taking the game 57-46.

(11-4) Cold Springs 78 – (2-9) Good Hope 34 (varsity girls) 

The third-ranked Lady Eagles had seven different players find the scoring column in this one and took the game with ease 78-34.

Camryn Crider nailed six shots from deep, finishing with 24 points, four rebounds and three steals for Cold Springs. Toni West wasn't too far behind, adding 17 points, seven rebounds, a steal and a block. Lina Lieckfeld ended up with 14 points, four rebounds, a steal and a block. Elizabeth Hill chipped in with eight points, six rebounds and three steals. Kylon Hamby finished with seven points and a pair of rebounds. Neely Ellison added six points and four rebounds, and Kinley Campbell ended up with two points, four rebounds, a steal and a block. Aubrey Negron added eight rebounds and a block. The Lady Eagles will take on Lauderdale County at Tom Drake Coliseum on Thursday.

For Good Hope, Ivey Maddox led the way with 16 points, five rebounds and a steal. Heather Tetro added 10 points and a pair of rebounds. Savanna Burney ended up with four points and two rebounds. Rudi Derrick added two points and five rebounds, while Abby Neighbors finished with two points, six rebounds and a steal.

(9-2) Good Hope 57 – (10-5) Cold Springs 46 (varsity boys)

The first quarter saw both teams looking to get off to a quick start, but both defenses came out ready to play. Cold Springs found a way to get some momentum in the quarter, jumping out to a 9-4 lead and quickly stretching it to 15-8 on two layups by Landyn Freeman and one by Brody Peppers, but Good Hope’s Drew Maddox cut it to 15-11 after one with a trey from the right corner.

Cold Springs pushed its lead to 20-13 on a layup by Adam Hill and a three by Freeman, but the Raiders forced some Eagle turnovers and turned most of them into points as Matt Dixon helped spearhead a 9-0 run by scoring four points. Dawson Turner added a trey and Tanner Malin added a layup of his own as Good Hope took a 22-20 lead. The Eagles took the lead right back on a Freeman trey and wound up taking a 29-26 lead into the break.

Michael Lowe came out on fire for Good Hope in the second half, scoring six of the first eight Raider points to start out the third period. The 8-0 run, plus some good defense, gave the Raiders the lead at 34-29, but the Eagles tied the game at 34 with five points in a row. Noah Fendley nailed a shot from deep to give Good Hope a 37-36 lead headed into the final frame.

Three from Turner and Cole Maddox pushed the lead to 43-36, but the Eagles countered by hitting six of seven shots from the free-throw line to make it a 43-42 contest. After Good Hope made it 46-41 on three points by Cole Maddox, an and-one by Freeman made it 46-44, but the Raiders finished the game on an 11-2 run, which was started by a Fendley layup and ended with Cole and Drew Maddox scoring nine of the final 11 points. Good Hope wound up taking the game 57-46.

Cole Maddox finished the game with 20 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Raiders. Lowe added eight points, seven rebounds, a steal and four blocks. Drew Maddox ended up with eight points and a pair of steals. Fendley added seven points, three rebounds and a steal. Turner chipped in with six points. Dixon finished with four points, four rebounds and three steals. Eli Phares and Malin each added two points and a steal in the game. Good Hope will travel to West Point on Friday night.

Freeman led the way for Cold Springs with 23 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Adam Hill added 11 points and five rebounds. Peppers ended up with seven points, seven rebounds and a steal. Logan Rice added two points, three rebounds and a pair of steals. Mason Harris ended up with two points and a steal. Roberto Ayala chipped in with a point and three rebounds. The Eagles will be playing in the West Point Christmas Tournament starting next Thursday.
