My guest this week on “Community with Carol” is Rachel Bryant, founder and director of Karma in Cullman.

The organization began in 2013 after a turbulent time in Rachel’s life.

The idea for Karma was simple; Rachel was cleaning and decluttering, and thought, “I wonder if someone else could use these things.”. So, she posted the items on Facebook “free to a good home.”   She was amazed at how many people responded and how many were in need.

I have followed her Facebook page since she started and watched as not only material needs were met, but also emotional needs.   Rachel is very open about her struggle with depression and anxiety.  I believe this is why so many reach out to her page to voice their own struggles.

Karma in Cullman has several events throughout the year.  The next event will be Nov. 21: a Thanksgiving dinner for all to join.  This will be from 2-7 p.m. at the housing authority community center in the southwest part of the city of Cullman.

December’s a busy month as the 501(c)3 organization serves more than 300 children during Christmas.  On Dec. 1 Karma will host Cookies and Cocoa with Santa.   This is all about the children they serve and their families.  A local photographer has volunteered to take family photos with Santa free of charge. The children will enjoy cookies and cocoa, plus visit with Santa.  They also get to choose a gift for a parent or caregiver and will have help to wrap the gift.

To be of service to so many families, Rachel could use your help.   November and December are extremely busy at Karma.

The Karma family also provides backpacks and back-to-school clothing for children.  They host a suicide prevention walk and fulfill needs through the Karma Facebook page throughout the year.

I hope you will watch my interview with Rachel this week (On Tuesday at www.Facebook.com/CullmanTribune). Karma in Cullman goes above and beyond to make all feel welcome and part of a family that cares.

Go by and see Rachel at the Karma in Cullman office of Karma in Cullman at 785 Alabama Highway 157
